Trial Resumption of Jo Guk Couple ... 'Prosecution Maintained' Chief Prosecutor Kang Baeksin Dispatched to Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The trial of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk and his wife is scheduled to resume on the 3rd of next month after about five months, and the prosecution has decided to dispatch prosecutors responsible for maintaining the indictment to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.
According to the legal community on the 31st, Kang Baeksin, chief prosecutor of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, who is in charge of maintaining the indictment in the trial of former Minister Cho and former professor Jeong Gyeongshim on charges of admission fraud, will be dispatched to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office starting from the 2nd of next month.
Chief Prosecutor Kang was a leading critic of the unconstitutionality of the 'Prosecution Reform' bill and was also dispatched to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office task force (TF) to prepare for constitutional court trials. Two other prosecutors involved in the trial have also been decided to be dispatched.
This decision is a measure to fill the work gap caused by recent personnel changes in the prosecution. Originally, Ko Hyunggong, who led the investigation and indictment maintenance of this case as the head of the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, was recently promoted to the 4th Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in the recent personnel reshuffle, making it difficult for him to participate in the trial.

The trial of former Minister Cho and his wife has not been held since January 14th, when the prosecution filed a motion to disqualify the trial panel, claiming that "the court is making a biased conclusion against the defendants and proceeding with the trial based on it." After the motion was dismissed twice, the prosecution eventually gave up on re-appealing, and the existing trial panel continued to hear the case.
