Jeonnam Education Superintendent Candidates "We Will Not Give Up a Single Vote"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The candidates for Jeonnam Superintendent of Education, who are engaged in a razor-thin contest, are showing signs of overheating and even disorder as the June 1 local elections approach.
As the fierce competition between candidates Kim Dae-jung and Jang Seok-woong heats up, negative campaigning continues with mutual accusations and surveillance of each other.
In the early stages, public opinion largely favored candidate Jang, who had the advantage of being the incumbent. Especially in the superintendent election, known as a "dark election," the incumbent was considered unconditionally advantageous, leading to the assumption that opposing candidates would not be a match.
However, candidate Kim Dae-jung suddenly launched a fierce chase and began to catch up with candidate Jang Seok-woong in various opinion polls.
In a poll conducted by Korean Research on 800 Jeonnam residents from the 23rd to the 25th, commissioned by the three major public broadcasters MBC, KBS, and SBS, candidate Kim Dae-jung showed a support rate of 25.8%, slightly ahead of candidate Jang Seok-woong's 23.9% within the margin of error. Candidate Kim Dong-hwan received 6.1%, while 44.2% responded that they had no preferred candidate or did not know.
Earlier, a poll conducted on the 22nd by five local media outlets?Namdo Ilbo, Jeonnam Maeil, Gwangju Maeil, Gwangju Buddhist Broadcasting, and Gwangju Dream?commissioned to the polling specialist R&Search Co., surveyed 801 adults aged 18 and over residing in Jeonnam. The results showed candidates Kim Dae-jung and Jang Seok-woong tied at 33.4%, with candidate Kim Dong-hwan at 8.2%.
Ironically, those around say that it was candidate Jang’s side that helped increase candidate Kim’s recognition.
Candidate Jang publicized various issues such as the "Jeonnam Education Basic Income" pledge and allegations of color politics against candidate Kim, which caused Kim’s recognition to rise sharply.
With the election just one day away, the two candidates are fiercely competing with the determination of "not giving up a single vote," while candidate Kim Dong-hwan is trailing loosely behind.
Due to the razor-thin race, many believe that it is difficult to predict the outcome of this superintendent election "until the lid is opened."
