Gwangju Seo-gu Conducts Pneumococcal Vaccination for Seniors Aged 65 and Over
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 31st that it will conduct 'pneumococcal vaccination' for seniors aged 65 and over (born on or before December 31, 1957).
Pneumococcal meningitis and endocarditis are fatal to seniors aged 65 and over, and meningitis has a mortality rate of up to 80%, making vaccination essential for a healthy old age.
The target group for the program is seniors aged 65 and over (born on or before December 31, 1957) who have never received the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine.
If vaccinated against pneumonia before the age of 65, eligibility for vaccination depends on the previously administered vaccine, so inquiries should be made to the public health center's vaccination office.
Vaccinations are available at designated medical institutions within Seo-gu, and these institutions can also be confirmed on the Vaccination Helper website.
Visitors should call in advance to confirm vaccination availability at the medical institution and bring identification on the day of vaccination.
This year, Seo-gu is actively encouraging free pneumococcal vaccination by sending mail to eligible seniors born in 1957 or earlier who have not yet been vaccinated.
A Seo-gu public health center official said, "Since a single vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of pneumonia, we recommend vaccination for a healthy old age."
For more details, please contact the Seo-gu Public Health Center Vaccination Office.
