'The Mokpo Maritime W Show' Embroidering the Night Sky... Premieres on the 3rd of Next Month
New Musicals Produced Featuring K-pop and Fusion Gugak
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do, is ambitiously preparing the ‘2022 Mokpo Maritime W Show’ to elevate its status as one of Korea’s four major tourism hub cities, which will premiere on the 3rd of next month.
According to the city on the 30th, this year’s W Show will feature new and upgraded performances to make up for last year’s disappointment due to COVID-19 disruptions. From June to August, the show will be held every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 PM, and from September to November, it will start at 8 PM on the maritime stage of the Dancing Sea Fountain at Peace Plaza.
The main show, a collaboration of the Dancing Sea Fountain, musicals, and fireworks, has increased diversity and completeness by sequentially performing two new musicals that enhance entertainment and popularity with K-pop and fusion gugak (traditional Korean music), along with existing works.
Prior to the main show, pre-events including recreation, proposals, and story introductions will be held, creating a festive time for citizens and tourists to enjoy together.
After the main show, the ‘2022 Mokpo Port Busking’ will be linked to provide an emotionally rich busking performance to soothe the audience’s longing following the W Show.
The city plans to ensure safe and comfortable viewing by establishing a cooperative system with related organizations such as the police station, fire station, model drivers’ association, and citizen police, and will make thorough arrangements including the deployment of safety and traffic management personnel.

A city official said, “This year’s W Show has prepared more distinctive and diverse attractions to make up for last year’s shortcomings. We ask for the interest of citizens and tourists so that the W Show can serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19,” adding, “Traffic congestion is expected on the day of the performance, so we ask that you use public transportation.”
