[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul mayor, strongly criticized on the 30th the Kimpo Airport relocation pledge proposed by Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate for Incheon Gyeyang-eul National Assembly, and Song Young-gil, the Democratic Party candidate for Seoul mayor, ahead of the June 1 local elections, saying, “From the perspective of ordinary people and the vulnerable who sweat blood to make a living, how luxurious and futile would this issue appear?”
On the same day, Oh held a press conference at Kimpo Airport in Banghwa-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, and said this. He stated, “Everything is being swallowed like a black hole by the issue of closing Kimpo Airport and relocating it to Incheon, so more important and essential discussions related to people’s livelihoods are completely disappearing, all policy scopes are being narrowed, and an atmosphere is being created where people can go to the polls just because of this one issue. This is the problem,” and criticized, “Is this pledge that came out before the actual vote really that important?” The press conference was also attended by Kim Eun-hye, the Gyeonggi Province governor candidate, Heo Hyang-jin, the Jeju Province governor candidate, and Boo Sang-il, the Jeju-eul National Assembly candidate.
He also emphasized that the Kimpo Airport relocation pledge is a ‘hasty pledge.’ Oh said, “One person who said they would throw out such an important pledge without any maturation process and then say let’s publicize it and gather opinions was someone who was going to be president, and another was someone who played the role of the Democratic Party leader,” sharpening his tone by asking, “Do you feel the future of Korea and Seoul so lightly?”
He continued, “All major cities around the world have multiple airports. When one airport is closed due to an accident, there must be at least two or more to overcome crisis situations,” emphasizing the necessity of maintaining Kimpo Airport.

Candidate Kim also pointed out, “Currently, there is no civilian airport in Gyeonggi Province, causing great inconvenience to 14 million Gyeonggi residents,” and criticized, “If Kimpo Airport disappears, residents in northern Gyeonggi will have the worst air access in the country. Why should Gyeonggi suffer such damage?” Then, raising his voice, he urged candidate Kim Dong-yeon to “state his position as a candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor.”
