Taking advantage of the "2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games," the Ministry, together with Gangwon Province and the 2018 Pyeongchang Foundation, is promoting a project to invite youth athletes from countries where winter sports development is difficult due to climatic conditions or where participation in winter sports competitions is challenging, supporting two training camps until next year. This kick-off ceremony marks the beginning of the project.
The invited youth athletes will train in winter sports disciplines in Gangwon Province, including Pyeongchang. They will also have the opportunity to participate as athletes in the "2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games."
The first training camp will be held in Pyeongchang from the 30th until June 12. About 100 youth athletes from 14 countries, including four Asian countries such as Thailand and ten African countries including Ethiopia, will experience and receive basic training in winter sports such as bobsleigh, ski jumping, and skeleton.
