Police Investigate Specific Motive Behind Crime
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A man who set fire to a banner of Song Young-gil, the Democratic Party of Korea's Seoul mayoral candidate, has been arrested.
On the 29th, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul announced that they have detained a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and are investigating him.
Mr. A is accused of setting fire with a lighter to Song's campaign banner hung in a park in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, at around 9:20 a.m. the previous day.
The police responded to a report that a banner hanging in the park was on fire and arrested Mr. A nearby. It is reported that Mr. A stated during the police investigation that he committed the act impulsively.
