"US Discusses Strengthening Economic Cooperation with Taiwan"...US-China Confrontation Expected to Intensify
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Reports have emerged that the United States and Taiwan will soon begin discussions to strengthen cooperation in the economic sector.
US CNN broadcast reported this on the 27th (local time), citing a senior Taiwanese official.
The official stated, "Within weeks, the United States and Taiwan will initiate talks to deepen trade and economic cooperation," adding, "This will focus on promoting trade and investment relations."
In particular, discussions are expected to focus on securing supply chains in key sectors such as semiconductors, where the US is struggling, as well as labor, environment, and sustainable development. Many semiconductor companies, including TSMC, the world's largest foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturer), are Taiwanese firms.
As China, which advocates the 'One China' policy, openly intensifies military and diplomatic pressure to incorporate Taiwan into the mainland, there are expectations that US-China confrontation over this region will escalate as the US strengthens economic cooperation with Taiwan.
