Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Crack Down on 54 Children's Favorite Food Manufacturers Violating Food Sanitation Act
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has identified 54 manufacturers of children's favorite food products that violated the Food Sanitation Act.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police Unit announced on the 26th that from April 18 to 29, it conducted inspections on 360 manufacturers and processors of children's favorite foods such as snacks and bread, and found 54 violations of the Food Sanitation Act and other regulations.
Among the major cases, a cake manufacturing and processing company 'A' located in Paju City was found to have operated for over two years without preparing documents related to the receipt, shipment, and use of raw materials.
A donut manufacturing and processing company 'B' located in Yangju City was found to have stored raw materials such as banana resin (8 kg) and donut filling (107 kg), which were past their expiration date by more than six months, in a room-temperature warehouse at the business site without labeling them as 'for disposal.'
A hot dog manufacturing and processing company 'C' located in Hwaseong City stored 500 kg of hot dog dough raw material, Chalmix, which is a room-temperature preservation product, in a frozen warehouse. Additionally, a bread and snack manufacturing and processing company 'D' located in Gwacheon City was found to have failed to conduct self-quality inspections on snack products at least once every three months over the past year.
According to the current Food Sanitation Act, violations of food preservation standards are punishable by imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million won. Furthermore, manufacturing and selling without documents related to production and work records, or receipt, shipment, and use of raw materials, storing expired products, foods, or raw materials for manufacturing, processing, cooking, or sales purposes, or failing to conduct periodic self-quality inspections to ensure products meet standards and specifications are each punishable by imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won.

Kim Min-kyung, head of the Provincial Civil Special Judicial Police Unit, stated, "We will strictly punish the identified companies according to relevant regulations so that children can purchase with confidence," and added, "We will do our best to change public awareness of food safety and eradicate illegal activities."
