Gwangyang Steelworks Initiates Safety Training for Equipment Maintenance Partners
15 Maintenance Partner Companies and Over 2,000 Workers in Equipment Division
Improving Work Standards and Supplementing Risk Assessments... Aiming to Create a Safe Workplace
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) has conducted special safety training for 15 maintenance partner companies in the equipment sector, aiming to enhance the safety capabilities of their employees.
Gwangyang Steelworks began special safety training on the 19th of last month to strengthen safety awareness, with the goal of preventing safety accidents among partner companies through the establishment of a work culture that prioritizes safety above all else.
The special safety training consists of a two-track approach: each partner company conducts its own training to improve unreasonable work standards and supplement risk assessments, while the Equipment Technology Department of Gwangyang Steelworks organizes group training sessions to ensure that the targeted employees firmly cultivate safety awareness.
In particular, the Equipment Technology Department of Gwangyang Steelworks attracted attention by maximizing the training effect through sharing various video materials that illustrate types of safety accidents and real-life cases with partner company employees.
Additionally, the causes of safety accidents were explained in detail by dividing them into △systemic factors △human factors △physical factors, and the training helped participants to detect potential risks in advance according to each factor.
Following this, each partner company plans to hold safety innovation activity sessions to improve work standards and identify and address potential risks based on the training content.
Gwangyang Steelworks expects to complete the special safety training for a total of about 2,000 employees from 15 maintenance partner companies by the end of May, contributing not only to raising the safety awareness of maintenance partner employees working on the front lines but also to creating a zero-accident worksite.
An employee from one of the partner companies who participated in the training shared, “The videos helped raise my awareness of safety. I realized that even a small carelessness can lead to a major accident, and it became an opportunity to pledge to strictly follow work standards for my own safety.”
Go Chan-ju, Deputy Director of Equipment at Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “No matter how good the systems and safe the facilities are, accidents will continue if there is a lack of safety awareness and the capability to recognize risks. Going forward, we will strive to improve the safety awareness level not only of direct employees but also of partner company employees, ensuring strict compliance with work principles and processes.”
