Jeongeup-si 'Danpungmiin Seedless Watermelon' Officially Shipped

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 24th that the representative summer agricultural product, the ‘Danpungmiin Seedless Watermelon,’ will be shipped in full swing.

Jeongeup is considered an optimal region for watermelon cultivation due to its abundant annual sunlight, fertile soil, and plentiful water supply.

In particular, Jeongeup watermelons are famous for their seedless black-skinned variety, characterized by a rind color that is darker than regular watermelons and a sugar content that is 1~2℃ higher than regular watermelons even during the rainy season.

Therefore, the Danpungmiin Seedless Watermelon is currently regarded as having the best quality nationwide and is receiving positive responses from consumers.

The Danpungmiin Seedless Watermelon began cultivation in 2012 and now produces the highest quality watermelons over an area of 35 hectares.

Compared to watermelons from other production areas, it has higher sugar content and superior taste, aroma, and texture, resulting in transactions at prices 5~15% (20,000 to 25,000 KRW) higher.

Watermelons selected only for the highest quality with 12 Brix or above at the Agricultural Product Distribution Center (APC) are sold at fruit stores in major cities such as department stores and large supermarkets.

A city official stated, “We will make administrative efforts such as premium marketing to expand stable and continuous distribution channels and increase farmers’ income,” and added, “Please enjoy Jeongeup watermelons, which are delicious and rich in nutrients.”
