Safe Exploration and Experiment Environment... Ulsan Office of Education Conducts First Half Science Lab Safety Consulting
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will conduct the ‘2022 First Half Science Lab Safety Consulting’ for 50 elementary, middle, and high schools over approximately four weeks starting from the 25th.
The Office of Education established a plan for science lab safety consulting targeting 100 elementary, middle, and high schools earlier this year to create a safe inquiry- and experiment-centered science education environment, and held a business council meeting with the Education Support Offices.
The Education Support Offices have also completed preparations to support schools by forming science lab safety support teams.
All schools in Ulsan completed their individual school-based science experiment safety self-inspections in April. Based on the results, the Office of Education and the Education Support Offices selected a total of 50 schools in the first half of the year?24 elementary, 16 middle, and 10 high schools?to provide on-site science lab safety consulting.
During the consulting, according to the newly detailed ‘Science Lab Safety Management Guidelines’ restructured this year, a comprehensive inspection will be conducted on ▲the status of laboratory safety management plan establishment ▲student safety education and teacher training related to safety ▲chemical management practices ▲science lab safety equipment and facility status, and guidance on necessary improvements will be provided while carefully reviewing the results of corrective actions.
For the first time this year, the Office of Education will conduct a satisfaction survey on the safety consulting at schools to identify areas for improvement and reflect them in future science lab safety management plans. In the second half of the year, consulting on the overall operation of science labs at special schools and various other schools will also be promoted.

A representative from the Office of Education said, “Since science labs are among the places in schools that require the most safety management, we will create an inquiry and experiment environment free from safety accidents by raising safety awareness among teachers and students and providing practical safety management guidance.”
