[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Local Autonomy Talent Development Institute of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 22nd that it will conduct a five-day training program on "Local Administration in Developing Countries 2022" starting from the 23rd for mid-level public officials from foreign local governments that are exchanging and cooperating with domestic local governments.

This year, 15 local government officials from six countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, which have sister city or friendly cooperation relationships with seven local governments such as Daejeon Metropolitan City, Ulsan Metropolitan City, Chungcheongnam-do, Bucheon City in Gyeonggi-do, and Chuncheon City in Gangwon-do, will participate. The program consists mainly of online pre-learning, lectures, presentations of best practices, and practical exercises on action plans.

In particular, reflecting the trainees' needs, the program will share Korea's local administrative innovation experiences for sustainable development in developing countries and provide time to create feasible action plans for improving residents' lives tailored to each country. Additionally, trainees will present cases from their own countries related to local administrative innovation, exchange opinions, and listen to presentations on innovative best practices from cooperating domestic local governments to explore applicable policy ideas.

Since its establishment in 1965, the Local Autonomy Talent Development Institute has been conducting education and training for central and local public officials for over half a century, supporting government innovation and the development of local autonomy. Since 2000, it has operated 202 capacity-building training courses for public officials from developing countries over 22 years, with 334 participants from 52 countries having attended the "Local Administration Course for Developing Countries."

Yoon Jong-jin, President of the Local Autonomy Talent Development Institute, said, "I hope this training will contribute to strengthening the capabilities of public officials from developing countries and become a time for Korea and developing countries to work together for global prosperity."
