It continued, "We pray for the souls of the democratic martyrs who gave their lives holding the Taegeukgi and singing the national anthem to protect democracy and the values of the constitution from unjust public authority," and "We sincerely extend our condolences to the May 18 democratic merit recipients and their families who live with the pain of that day, which is difficult to even imagine."
Furthermore, it stated, "Even today, 42 years later, the tragedy and pain of May 18 are still in the process of being overcome, and over the years, May 18 has been distorted in truth and exploited in politics of conflict and division," emphasizing, "We reflect that the People Power Party has not been free from that responsibility, and at the same time, as we prepare for tomorrow, we will fulfill the historic responsibility to inherit and develop the spirit of May 18."
In addition, it explained, "The attendance of President Yoon Suk-yeol and all People Power Party lawmakers at the May 18 Democratic Uprising memorial ceremony is a strong will and commitment to inherit the noble spirit of May 18 and achieve national unity," and "The meaning of May 18 has expanded beyond the foundation of democracy in the Republic of Korea to become a precious history that protected the values of freedom and democracy and a proud experience of solidarity with citizens around the world in places such as Hong Kong, Myanmar, and Ukraine."
