View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] SAMG Entertainment announced on the 18th that its content intellectual property (IP) export revenue in the first quarter of this year reached $4.26 million (approximately 5.48 billion KRW), marking a 270% increase compared to the same period last year.
SAMG analyzed that the establishment of its China branch earlier this year and the subsequent full-scale global business expansion were key factors driving the export growth. Major export items included license distribution using its IP, overseas broadcasting, launching on global online video services (OTT) and new media platforms, as well as other outsourced productions.
SAMG’s flagship animation series, "Mini Force," has been regarded as one of the top popular kids’ contents in the Chinese market since its release in 2016. "Mini Force Season 3: Super Dino Power" ranked first in viewership on the top 10 animation channel "Jin Ying Cartoon (金通)" just one month after its entry into China in September last year.
The animation "Catch! Teenieping," newly introduced by SAMG in 2020, is gaining attention not only in Korea but also in the global kids’ market. Within one week of its launch in China last July, it recorded 32 million cumulative views on Chinese OTT platforms such as Tencent and iQIYI, and has now surpassed 1.1 billion views. In October, it ranked first in the domestic kids’ category upon its Netflix launch and ranked 5th and 9th respectively on Netflix in Australia and North America.
"Super Dino," which began airing on SBS in March this year, simultaneously entered Chinese TV channels and OTT platforms at the end of April, immediately ranking first on the kids’ animation popularity chart on "Youku." In the first half of next year, SAMG plans to showcase the "Super Dino" IP on the global stage in collaboration with Europe’s largest media group, DeAPlaneta Entertainment.
