Korea-Japan Senior Nuclear Envoys Hold Phone Talks on "North Korea Missile and COVID Measures"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Kim Geon, the newly appointed Director General for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held his first phone consultation on the 17th with Funakoshi Takehiro, Japan's Chief Representative for North Korean Nuclear Issues and Director of the Asia and Oceania Bureau at Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During this introductory call, both sides shared assessments of recent North Korean missile provocations and the spread of COVID-19 within North Korea, and discussed response measures.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they agreed to continue close communication and cooperation regarding North Korea and North Korean nuclear issues going forward.

Director Kim was appointed on the 13th as the South Korean government's Chief Representative for North Korean nuclear issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Bureau. The day before, he held his first phone consultation with Sung Kim, the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea at the State Department.
