"Establish Laundry for Workers and Farmers"
"Set Up Jeonnam Labor Rights Center Central (Naju) Office"
"Introduce Replacement of Korean-Style Cleaning Vehicles and Increase Sanitation Workers"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Yoon Byung-tae, the Democratic Party candidate for mayor of Naju City, expressed a positive stance on improving labor issues during a meeting on June 11 regarding the 'June 1 local government election labor policies for the Naju City industrial complex' requested by organizations affiliated with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU). He stated, “I will strive to adjust labor policies for Naju citizens who are workers to align with the various environmental changes in Naju City.”
Park Geun-seo, head of the KCTU Naju branch, Jang Jae-young, chairman of the Korea Internet & Security Agency Labor Union, and Moon Gil-ju, director of the Jeollanam-do Labor Rights Center, requested that Yoon Byung-tae actively reflect policies that former Mayor Kang In-gyu had continuously rejected, noting that such policies are already being implemented in other local governments.
The main policies proposed by the KCTU on this day included the installation of laundry facilities for workers' and farmers' work clothes, the establishment of a Jeonnam Labor Rights Center Central (Naju) office, and the creation of rest areas for delivery, proxy, and quick service workers in the Innovation City.
Additionally, they requested the adoption of a public bus system in Naju, the replacement of Korean-style cleaning vehicles and reinforcement of sanitation workers, opposition to the privatization of city-run projects, realistic support for the operation costs of the Naju labor counseling center, and the construction of the Naju Industrial Safety and Health Center, totaling nine items.
Candidate Yoon Byung-tae expressed an overall positive opinion on the proposals presented by the KCTU and stated, “Labor policies should be improved to suit the changing environment of Naju City, while also considering effectiveness to maximize policy impact.”
Regarding the proposal for a public bus system, he said, “I have already announced a public transportation policy and expressed an intention to consider the introduction of a public system,” adding, “We will confirm the required budget through a research project and decide after obtaining consent from the council and citizens.”
Concerning concerns about employment instability due to the privatization of Naju City’s direct management projects, he stated, “We will thoroughly review the pros and cons of privatization but proceed in a way that does not undermine employment stability.”
