Jeonnam Police and National Forensic Service Hold Research Development Forum for 'Taking a Step Further Together'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 13th that it held a forum on the 12th under the theme of "Walking Together to Take One Step Further" to promote research development between the police and the National Forensic Service (NFS).
About 40 people from both organizations attended the forum, including Choi Jongsang, Chief of Investigation Division of Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency (Senior Superintendent), and Kim Nami, Director of Gwangju Forensic Science Institute (Research Officer).
This forum was organized for the first time since the spread of COVID-19 limited face-to-face opportunities between the police and NFS due to infectious disease prevention measures. It aimed to enhance on-site response capabilities as a responsible investigative agency by sharing new techniques and cases to secure objective evidence and ensure professionalism and integrity in evidence processing.
Kim Nami, Director of Gwangju NFS, presented research materials on "New Forensic Methods in Scientific Investigation, Fingerprint Persistence, and Oil Stain Timing," while five forensic officers from Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, including Inspector Shin Jinho, presented and discussed excellent cases of solving cases through fingerprint analysis.
The attendees evaluated that by presenting research materials on new forensic techniques from NFS and preparing actual field cases related to the theme from the police side for discussion, they created a foundation for research development through two-way knowledge sharing.
Kim Nami, Director of Gwangju NFS, said, "I appreciate Jeonnam Police for creating a communication platform and hope that police forensic investigation and NFS forensic science will develop harmoniously."
The Chief of Investigation Division of Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency urged, "Going forward, please maintain a close cooperative relationship between Gwangju NFS and Jeonnam Police forensic investigation, and do your best to secure evidence at crime scenes through continuous research and development to identify suspects and reveal the substantial truth."
