Gwangju Nam-gu Initiates Blood Donation and Organ Donation Life Sharing Expansion
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is working to spread the atmosphere of life-sharing through blood donation and organ donation, which have declined due to the impact of COVID-19.
According to Nam-gu on the 13th, the ‘Blood Donation Practice Day’ campaign, which shares love through blood donation, was held from 9:30 a.m. that day in the large conference room on the 8th floor of the district office.
This is to contribute, even slightly, to resolving the imbalance between blood supply and demand caused by the two-year-long COVID-19 aftermath.
Nam-gu conducts the Blood Donation Practice Day campaign quarterly four times a year in cooperation with the Korean Red Cross Gwangju Jeonnam Blood Center to supply the insufficient blood, and on this day, the second blood donation of love held this year, public officials, public service workers working at the district office, and residents participated in this meaningful event together.
The second half Blood Donation Practice Day campaigns are expected to be held in August-September and November respectively, and the blood collected through the blood donation of love will be usefully used to save the lives of patients in need of transfusion.
Along with this, Nam-gu plans to revitalize the atmosphere of life-sharing as interest in organ donation has significantly decreased due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the status of organ donation pledge participants in the district over the past three years, 47 people participated in 2019, reaching a peak, but the number has sharply decreased every year with 11 in 2020 and 4 in 2021.
Accordingly, Nam-gu provides promotional leaflets about organ donation through the district office civil service office, health center civil service office, and civil service counters of 17 administrative welfare centers in the district, and is also considering a plan to carry out a campaign in cooperation with the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency.
