Major Records Exhibition in June This Year... Sequential Launch of Records List Service in December
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Presidential Archives of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 12th that it has received a total of 11.16 million records of the 19th presidential archives from 30 presidential records-producing institutions as of the 9th.
The transferred records were produced and received by the Presidential Secretariat (including the National Security Office), the Presidential Security Service, and presidential advisory bodies in relation to the president’s official duties, in accordance with the Act on the Management of Presidential Records.
By type of records, 8.88 million electronic records and 2.28 million non-electronic records were transferred. The electronic records consist of 740,000 electronic documents, 3.22 million administrative information data sets, and 4.92 million web records, accounting for 80% of the total records.
The transferred records include various forms such as gifts received from each country, various documents and publications, web records, and audiovisual records. Among the presidential gifts are books, paintings, coins, dolls, ceramics, carpets, and models received from heads of state and key figures of various countries. For example, during President Moon Jae-in’s European tour in October 2018, the “bronze olive branch” gifted by Pope Francis during his visit to the Vatican, and in August 2018, the “International Olympic Committee (IOC) certificate of appreciation” and “gold medal and medicine box” gifted by Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, are included.
Web records encompassing websites, social networking services (SNS), and blogs have also been transferred to and preserved by the Presidential Archives. These include not only the Blue House accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram but also records produced from President Moon’s personal accounts. Additionally, the “National Petition” posts from the Blue House’s main website were transferred, as well as video records from the Blue House YouTube account, which has about 350,000 subscribers, over 1,500 videos, and approximately 50 million views.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Archives conducted thorough preparations to systematically receive the 19th presidential records without omission, especially applying various technologies to ensure the completeness of electronic record transfers. To minimize delays caused by the large volume of transfers concentrated near the end of the presidential term, full-scale transfer preparations began one year before the end of the term (previously six months), and transfers were conducted regularly.
