The juvenile rockfish released that day were directly bred by the Gyeongbuk Fisheries Resources Research Institute and are healthy juveniles about 5 to 7 cm in length.
Since 2017, the city has been continuously conducting a project to release juvenile rockfish free of charge into local fishing grounds.
Rockfish settle in coastal areas, making them highly effective for resource formation in coastal fishing grounds. Compared to other released species, they grow quickly and are resistant to low water temperatures, making them popular among fishermen.
Rockfish, which have white flesh and are rich in fat, are called Gerchi, Dolsamchi, Nollaemi, and other names in local dialects. Except during the spawning season, their taste does not vary much throughout the year, but they are known to be in season from winter to the following spring.
