Do You Know the Great Silla Writer Who Created Sangnim in Hamyang? ... 'Choe Chiwon History Park' Experience Program 운영
Hamyang-gun, Weekly Saturday Reservations Open for Elementary and Middle School Students
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The ‘Choe Chi-won History Park’ established in Sangnim Park, the representative tourist destination of Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, is reaching out to elementary and middle school students as future scholars.
A special historical experience program began at this Choe Chi-won Park on April 30. The program, held every Saturday, is called the ‘Inbaekgicheon (人百己千) Historical Envoy Expedition Team’.
Inbaekgicheon is a phrase from the Doctrine of the Mean, one of the Four Books and Five Classics, meaning “If others succeed once, I try a hundred times; if others succeed ten times, I try a thousand times.” It is a four-character idiom quoted from the book Gyewon Pilgyeong written by the late Silla scholar Choe Chi-won, emphasizing passion and effort in scholarship.
This program, planned to revitalize the Choe Chi-won History Park, is held twice every Saturday at 1 PM and 3 PM. Each session accommodates 10 to 14 elementary and middle school students who can participate by making a reservation via phone in advance.
Lee, a second-grade student at Hamyang Elementary School who participated in the program, said, “Through this experience, I was able to learn the history of Sangnim and emulate the spirit of Choe Chi-won.”
The experience events include trying on traditional Silla clothing from the era of Choe Chi-won, making artifact models, and traditional game experiences. The program is designed to make history and tradition easily accessible through exciting mission-solving activities.
On that day, the traditional Silla clothing experience captivated the curiosity of the participating students.
A county official said, “We hope that participating in various experiential events tracing the footsteps of Choe Chi-won will be a meaningful time to learn about the history of Sangnim and the spirit of Choe Chi-won.”
