[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 9th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon met with Todd Leland, Co-Head of Goldman Sachs Asia Pacific, in his office to discuss the importance of financial policy and ways to strengthen Seoul's financial competitiveness.
Mayor Oh stated, "It is important to seek advice from global financial firms like Goldman Sachs when establishing plans to enhance Seoul's international competitiveness as a financial hub," adding, "As a global investment bank and securities and investment management company, we expect Goldman Sachs to propose various strategies to help develop Seoul's financial industry."
Todd Leland said, "Although South Korea ranks among the top 10 economies worldwide, its capital market still falls short of the national economic scale," and added, "If the central government and Seoul Metropolitan Government cooperate on policies to innovate regulations and increase transparency, I believe it will attract foreign investment and elevate Seoul's financial status." He continued, "Regulatory innovation will improve market efficiency, which can also help Korean companies reduce capital raising costs."
