Candidate Kim Dong-hwan for Jeonnam Superintendent of Education Announces Character Education Pledge
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Kim Dong-hwan, a preliminary candidate for Jeonnam Superintendent of Education, announced a pledge to strengthen character education on the 9th.
Candidate Kim Dong-hwan stated, "The core of future education will still be proper character education," and added, "We will continuously strengthen character education at schools in connection with families."
Candidate Kim proposed expanding comprehensive arts activity education to enhance character education.
He said, "Comprehensive arts activity education includes 'theater, film, musicals,' and by exposing students to various arts education, they will be able to develop cooperative attitudes and future emotional competencies."
He continued, "To strengthen filial piety (효, Hyo) and respect (경, Gyeong) education as well as traditional etiquette education, we will activate sisterhood ties between each school and a senior citizens' center, providing students with various experiences alongside local elders to help them properly form basic manners."

He also said, "We will introduce seonbi (scholar) education linked with traditional hyanggyo (Confucian academies) in the Jeonnam region and strengthen Chinese character education. Through hyanggyo experiential learning and Chinese character education connected with the local community, we expect not only to reinforce basic academic skills but also to practice the character education necessary for students."
