Samsung Electronics is the first to be selected as a supplier for this project for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022.
The Korea Communications Commission conducts this project annually to improve broadcasting accessibility for low-income visually and hearing-impaired individuals by distributing TVs for the visually and hearing impaired free of charge. The project is carried out in a way that the Korea Communications Agency selects priority recipients based on income level and degree of disability, and Samsung Electronics supplies TVs for the visually and hearing impaired by the end of this year.
The products to be supplied this time are 15,000 units of 40-inch TVs, with enhanced convenience features useful for visually and hearing-impaired users. The added features include ▲channel information banner with disabled broadcasting type guidance ▲closed caption font change ▲high volume alert.
In addition, through Bluetooth functionality, wireless earphones and hearing aids can be connected, and the ‘multi-sound output’ feature supports multiple users to set comfortable volume levels individually to enjoy the TV. The usability of a dedicated remote control with braille buttons has been further improved, and in addition to the dedicated remote, one remote control supporting voice recognition is provided.
The function that automatically finds and enlarges the sign language screen of the broadcast and the subtitle separation function can be used simultaneously. The ‘focus zoom’ function, which enlarges the size of specific characters related to TV operation such as channel, volume, and menu, and the ‘voice guide’ function, which provides voice guidance on TV settings and broadcast information, have also been applied.
