Democratic Party Criticizes Yoon's Repeated Policy Backtracks as "A Major Disaster Caused by a One-Line Pledge"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea criticized President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's retreat from his presidential campaign promises one after another on the 4th.
On the same day, Representative Lee Tan-hee wrote on Facebook, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration's 110 major tasks have been announced," and criticized, "The one-line pledges that were supposed to be implemented immediately after the election have largely disappeared from the national agenda."
Rep. Lee said, "Whether unfortunate or fortunate, promises such as 'additional THAAD deployment' and 'abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family' have vanished without a trace, and other major pledges have been significantly rolled back or effectively hollowed out," adding, "'From private soldiers receiving 2 million won in salary' has been transformed into 'only sergeants receiving 1.5 million won'."
He also criticized, "The promise of after-school care classrooms until 8 p.m. at all elementary schools was reduced to just five words: 'gradual expansion,'" and said, "Even if interpreted as 'gradual expansion over 20 years,' it is a bland national agenda with nothing to say." Furthermore, he stated, "Substantial compensation for COVID-19 losses and business closures has already been lost, 'parental allowance of 1 million won' has been postponed to 2024, and LTV easing has been changed to conditional," calling it "a historic disaster caused by the 'incompetence of President-elect Yoon, who only had one-line pledges,' and the 'arrogance of the transition team that disregards voters.'"
At the Democratic Party's emergency meeting that morning, Emergency Committee Chairperson Yoon Ho-jung also said, "President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign promises are disappearing into thin air," and evaluated, "Many core pledges, including the first promise of full compensation for losses, soldier salaries of 2 million won per month, establishment of GTX lines, redevelopment of first-generation new towns, and abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, have been effectively abandoned or significantly rolled back."
Regarding the pledge to "redevelop first-generation new towns," he said, "They initially briefed it as a mid- to long-term task, but after facing public opinion, they changed their words to 'starting the master plan this year.' Ultimately, it means researching and reviewing without knowing what will happen in the future," adding, "They deceived the public's eyes and proved their own 'bait-and-switch pledges' thrown out in a rush for votes."

He continued, "Without preparing funding measures, they presented the public with an astronomical pledge bill of 209 trillion won. It is a blank check national agenda that demands money first without showing any results," and criticized, "Before the administration even begins, the trust and morality of the next Yoon Seok-yeol administration have fallen to the ground." Chairperson Yoon urged, "If President-elect Yoon made promises he cannot keep, he should apologize to the public and completely revise the direction of government administration," and called for "self-reflection."
