Candidate Lee Jong-seop: "North Korean Missiles Violate Security Council"
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Defense Minister nominee Lee Jong-seop defined the ballistic missile launched by North Korea as a violation of the United Nations Security Council resolution.
On the 4th, during the National Assembly confirmation hearing, when asked if this was a violation of the UN resolution, Lee replied, "This is indeed a violation of the UN Security Council resolution."
When asked about the type of missile, Lee said, "It could be an ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile), but it might be one with a somewhat shorter range," adding, "I will report the exact missile type as soon as the results are available."
According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, they sent a text message to the press corps stating, "At around 12:03 PM, one ballistic missile was detected launched from the Pyongyang Sunan area toward the East Sea," and "The ballistic missile flew approximately 470 km, reached an altitude of about 780 km, and traveled at Mach 11."

Military experts have suggested the possibility that North Korea launched the Hwasong-17, an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that failed last month, with a reduced range as a retest. Pyongyang Sunan is the location where North Korea launched the ICBM at maximum performance on March 24.
