Gyeongju Solgeo Art Museum, Outdoor Exhibition 'Play With Me' ... Display of Paintings and Sculptures

A sculpture by artist Hong Ji-min exhibited at Solgeo Art Museum in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Gyeongju Solgeo Museum of Art in Gyeongbuk has prepared an outdoor special exhibition titled ‘PLAY WITH ME’ considering the characteristics of Gyeongju Expo Park, which attracts many family visitors.

The special exhibition featuring works by artist Hong Ji-min will be held from the 5th to October 30th. It reconstructs childhood memories with a friendly and warm sensibility, displaying three paintings and eight sculptures at the Solgeo Museum of Art window gallery and cafe terrace in Gyeongju.

The exhibited works are shaped like cute animals and showcase colorful hues. Some of the sculptures serve as photo zones where child visitors can touch and take pictures.

Additionally, an art wall has been installed along the Apyeongji trail next to the museum, providing a participatory space where visitors can draw their own characters on the artist’s works.

Six of the sculptures will be donated to the Gyeongju Solgeo Museum of Art after the exhibition and will be used as permanent content at the Gyeongju Museum of Art and Gyeongju Expo Park.

Hong Ji-min’s works materialize characters full of joyful synesthesia through paintings and sculptures.

The scenes where the realized characters reside are also painted with rich and humorous natural landscapes in the style of traditional Korean folk paintings.

Artist Hong Ji-min said, “I hope everyone who views these works feels good,” adding, “These works are created from happy and joyful memories, and I hope many viewers gain happiness from them.”
