Gyeonggi-do to Pilot 'Smart Safety Equipment' at Construction Sites Under 30 Billion Won
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will pilot the application of 'smart safety equipment' at small construction sites with budgets under 30 billion KRW.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 3rd that it will pilot the introduction of 'smart safety equipment,' which had been applied only to large construction projects over 30 billion KRW to prevent major accidents, at the small and medium-sized public building project 'Namhansanseong History and Culture Center Construction Project.'
Smart safety equipment uses advanced technology and includes devices such as the 'smart safety helmet,' which alerts workers through vibration or voice when a dangerous situation is predicted; the 'portable speaker,' which sounds an alarm when a worker approaches a hazardous area; and measuring instruments that detect the tilt of retaining walls by monitoring movement and angles.
The 'Fall Prevention Guidelines' under the 'Comprehensive Measures to Prevent Falls at Construction Sites,' prepared by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in March 2020, mandate the application of smart safety equipment for construction projects over 30 billion KRW.
Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province decided to operate smart safety equipment at small and medium-sized public building projects to reduce accident rates following the enforcement of the 'Serious Accidents Punishment Act' on January 27 this year, and has launched a pilot project.
The first project to apply this is the 'Namhansanseong History and Culture Center Construction Project.' This project, located in Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju City, covers a total floor area of 2,963㎡ (1 basement floor and 2 above-ground floors), with a budget of 14.7 billion KRW, and construction began in December last year.
Starting with this first application, the province plans to actively promote smart safety equipment and expand its use in public building projects.
