Kia Sells 240,000 Units Last Month... "Domestic Sales Surpass 50,000 Units for the First Time in 12 Months"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Kia has surpassed 50,000 domestic sales in 12 months despite the semiconductor supply shortage.
Kia announced on the 2nd that it sold 238,538 units globally last month based on wholesale sales, including 50,095 units domestically and 188,443 units overseas, a 5.8% decrease compared to the same period last year. Compared to the same period last year, domestic sales decreased by 2.0% and overseas sales by 6.8%.
By model, the Sportage was the best-selling model in the global market with 36,994 units sold, followed by the Seltos with 26,671 units and the K3 with 18,494 units.
Kia sold 50,095 units domestically in April 2022, a 2.0% decrease compared to the same month last year. This marks the first time in 12 months that sales exceeded 50,000 units since selling 51,128 units in April last year.
Passenger car models sold a total of 16,833 units, including 4,176 units of the K8, 3,993 units of the Ray, 2,790 units of the Morning, and 2,624 units of the K5. Recreational Vehicle (RV) models sold a total of 26,678 units, including 5,551 units of the Sorento, 5,121 units of the Carnival, 4,556 units of the Sportage, and 3,613 units of the Niro. Commercial models, including the Bongo III, sold a total of 6,584 units combining buses and trucks. The best-selling vehicle was the Bongo III with 6,402 units sold.
Overseas sales recorded 188,443 units, a 6.8% decrease compared to the same month last year. By model, the Sportage was the top-selling overseas model with 32,438 units sold, followed by the Seltos with 23,307 units and the K3 with 16,143 units.

A Kia official stated, “Although management uncertainty continues due to disruptions in semiconductor parts supply, we are minimizing the impact of supply delays through flexible semiconductor allocation and adjustments to vehicle production schedules,” and emphasized, “We will expand market share and profitability through competitive new model launches and solid sales strategies.”
