[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] LE SSERAFIM, the first girl group introduced by BTS's agency HYBE, will officially debut on the 2nd with the release of their mini-album 'FEARLESS.'
LE SSERAFIM is a girl group consisting of Kim Chaewon and Miyawaki Sakura, former members of the Korea-Japan project group IZ*ONE, along with Heo Yunjin, Kim Garam, Hong Eunchae, and Kazuha.
The debut album ‘FEARLESS’ by LE SSERAFIM includes a total of five tracks, including the title track of the same name. Under the direction of chief producer Bang Sihyuk, various genres such as alternative pop, disco-funk, and R&B were created in LE SSERAFIM’s unique style. Producer Bang participated in the production of the title track ‘FEARLESS’ and the track ‘The Great Mermaid.’ Members Kim Chaewon and Heo Yunjin contributed to the lyrics of track 3, ‘Blue Flame,’ expressing their honest thoughts and feelings while preparing for their debut.
The title track ‘FEARLESS’ is a punk-based alternative pop song that harmonizes bold bass riffs with groovy rhythms. It captures LE SSERAFIM’s confident image of moving forward unwaveringly without dwelling on the past.
Before the release of the title track, LE SSERAFIM attracted attention by releasing contrasting music video teasers on HYBE Labels’ YouTube channel. They showcased impressive synchronized choreography in athleisure looks on a gym set, displaying dazzling visuals against a crown-shaped chandelier background that symbolizes their bold ambition to reach the top.
Besides the title track, the album includes five tracks in total: ‘The World Is My Oyster,’ featuring ambitious narration in three languages expressing the desire to control the world; ‘Blue Flame,’ about being fascinated by a blue firefly symbolizing desire and embarking on an adventure into the unknown; ‘The Great Mermaid,’ a reinterpretation of the Little Mermaid story from LE SSERAFIM’s perspective; and ‘Sour Grapes,’ inspired by Aesop’s fable of the fox and the sour grapes, singing about a naive yet selfish attitude toward love.
Before their debut, LE SSERAFIM’s pre-order sales exceeded 380,000 copies as of the 29th of last month. Their pre-promotion activities heated up real-time trends on major social media platforms such as Twitter and Weibo.
