Democratic Party Requests Disciplinary Action Under National Assembly Act for People Power Party's Illegal Violent Acts
Lee Sujin "Illegal violent acts and chairperson finger-pointing in yesterday's plenary session... Unacceptable"
Kim Minseok "Bae Hyunjin defamed the chairperson, Kim Kihyun occupied the Judiciary Committee chair... Must be severely punished"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 1st, the Democratic Party of Korea stated that they will "thoroughly investigate the facts regarding illegal violent acts" directed at the People Power Party and "request disciplinary action under the National Assembly Act" concerning this matter.
Lee Su-jin, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, held a briefing at the National Assembly Communication Office in the afternoon and said, "People Power Party lawmakers started a protest in front of the Blue House, but they have targeted the wrong place."
Spokesperson Lee criticized, "The People Power Party committed illegal violent acts yesterday at the plenary session following their disruption of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee meeting on the 27th." He added, "Bae Hyun-jin, spokesperson for the Yoon Seok-yeol transition team, even insulted the Speaker of the National Assembly by pointing fingers and calling him 'cute little body.' The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea cannot tolerate violence. What the People Power Party must do now is apologize to the public for these illegal acts and participate in discussions on follow-up legislative measures based on bipartisan consensus."
Assemblyman Kim Min-seok also stated at a press conference at the Communication Office, "During this process, numerous violations of the National Assembly Act and the Act on the Improvement of the National Assembly were committed. Even if all else is forgiven, Assemblyman Bae Hyun-jin, who defamed the Speaker’s honor and insulted the legislature with false information, and former floor leader Kim Ki-hyun, who occupied the chair of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, must be strictly punished according to the law."
Earlier, Assemblyman Bae raised his voice at the plenary session, saying to Speaker Park Byeong-seok, "You bravely climbed onto the Speaker’s podium by kicking the female lawmakers sitting in the front row with your shoes to trample over us, the People Power Party lawmakers. Is this the democracy you talk about? Please explain."
In response, Assemblyman Kim said, "If it is true, as Assemblyman Bae claims, that the Speaker ignored the People Power Party lawmakers’ request for a meeting and even trampled on female lawmakers, I would be the first to demand Speaker Park’s resignation. However, the Speaker did meet with the People Power Party lawmakers and did not trample on any female lawmakers. He even sent words of encouragement to Assemblyman Bae, who attacked him and turned his back without greeting."
He continued, "Assemblyman Bae, who falsely slanders the Speaker, makes personal attacks, addresses him as 'you,' and demands his resignation, has completely misunderstood politics from the start. It is shocking that he is a spokesperson for the president-elect."

Assemblyman Kim emphasized, "At the very least, Assemblyman Bae should resign and be expelled, and Assemblyman Kim Ki-hyun should face severe disciplinary action. The Democratic Party leadership must responsibly and confidently refer these two lawmakers to the Ethics Committee and swiftly process this before the inauguration on May 10."
