Airbnb to Allow Permanent Remote Work
[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] As the COVID-19 pandemic shifts to an endemic phase, leading to an increase in companies reducing remote work, Airbnb has announced its policy to permanently allow remote work.
According to major foreign media on the 29th, Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, promised in a letter sent to employees the day before that there would be no need to come to the office, and employees would be allowed to relocate anywhere within their current country of residence. He explained that there would be no salary reductions or other disadvantages even if employees move to cities with a lower cost of living. Airbnb has a total of 6,000 employees worldwide, including about 3,000 employees in the United States.
CEO Chesky stated, "Through this approach, we will be able to hire and retain the best talent worldwide." However, he added that a small number of job roles would require employees to come to the office or be at specific locations to perform core duties. Chesky himself also revealed in January that he plans to live by moving between cities, staying for several weeks at a time in homes listed on the Airbnb platform.

Airbnb explained that the flexible lifestyle of moving between cities has been gaining popularity since COVID-19.
