Democratic Party of Korea Holds 8-Candidate Primary for Mayoral Candidates in Gimhae, Yangsan, and Jinju
Group Leader Primary Election from April 30 to May 1, ARS Voting for Party Members and Voters
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Democratic Party of Korea's Gyeongnam Provincial Party Election Management Committee has closed candidate registration for the primary elections for the mayoral races in Gimhae, Yangsan, and Jinju.
According to the provincial party election committee, the candidates registered for the Gimhae mayoral primary are Gong Yunkwon, former member of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development Evaluation Advisory Group, Park Seongho, former Deputy Governor of Gyeongnam Province, and Mayor Heo Seonggon.
For the Yangsan mayoral primary, Mayor Kim Ilkwon, Yangsan City Council member Park Jaeu, and former Director of Urban Construction of Yangsan City Park Jongseo will compete for the final candidate position.
The Jinju mayoral primary will feature Park Yanghu, visiting professor at Gyeongsang National University, and Han Gyeongho, former Acting Governor of Gyeongnam Province.
The primary elections for basic local government heads will be held from April 30 to May 1 through a public participation primary system, reflecting 50% of the votes from party members and 50% from voter secure number ARS voting results.
The election committee plans to finalize the candidate who receives the most support as the official candidate after approval by the party affairs committee.
They also announced the candidate registration results for the primary elections in the metropolitan council member districts.
In Changwon City’s 4th electoral district, Kim Gyeongyeong, a member of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, and Kim Youngjin, Chair of the Planning and Administration Committee of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, have registered.
In Gimhae City’s 4th electoral district, former Gimhae City Council member Kim Jonggeun and Gyeongnam Provincial Council member Kim Hyodae, and in Gimhae City’s 8th electoral district, Kim Younghyeon, President of the Korea Professional Counseling Association, and Son Deoksang, Gyeongnam Provincial Council member, have completed preliminary candidate registration.
In Yangsan City’s 4th electoral district, Yangsan City Council member Park Mihae and Vice Chair of the Culture and Welfare Committee of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council Pyo Byeongho have been listed as primary candidates.

The Democratic Party’s metropolitan council member candidate primaries will be conducted via mobile and landline ARS voting targeting party members, and the final candidates advancing to the general election will be selected after approval by the party affairs committee.
