Democratic Party to Convene Steering Committee on 29th... Approval of 'Judicial Reform Special Committee' Formation Plan
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea announced that it will hold the National Assembly Steering Committee on the 29th to pass a resolution to form a Special Committee on Judicial Reform for the launch of the "Serious Crime Investigation Agency (tentative name)."
On the 28th, Oh Young-hwan, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, said at a briefing at the National Assembly Communication Office, "The Democratic Party will immediately form the Special Committee on Judicial Reform to fulfill the promise made to the people regarding the reorganization of power institutions," adding, "We will convene the Steering Committee tomorrow to handle the formation of the Special Committee on Judicial Reform."
Regarding the "Complete Prosecution Reform" bill, Oh criticized the People Power Party for breaking the Speaker's mediation proposal, saying, "Despite both ruling and opposition parties coming together to promise the path to normalizing the prosecution as desired by the people, we cannot help but ask why they are heading toward 'breaking' and 'collapse.'"
He stated, "The bipartisan agreement clearly stated that 'the Serious Crime Investigation Agency will complete legislative measures within six months after the formation of the Special Committee and will be launched within one year after the legislative measures.' However, Sung Il-jong, the Policy Committee Chair of the People Power Party, responded that the issue of establishing the Serious Crime Investigation Agency was omitted from the agenda and that he did not know the reason for the omission," criticizing, "It was the People Power Party that reversed their position on the agreement as easily as flipping the palm at the word of the transition committee."
He continued, "We strongly condemn the irresponsibility and deception of the People Power Party, which turned the agreement into a scrap of paper in an instant and even refuses to form the Special Committee on Judicial Reform for the establishment of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency."
