[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education held a special Citizen Communication Day on the 27th at the Jeonil Building 245 conference room to communicate and build consensus with citizens.
According to the Office of Education on the 28th, this Citizen Communication Day was held under the theme "Awakened Innovative Education, Future Education to Advance." It was organized to reflect on past Gwangju education and jointly explore the future direction of Gwangju education through a dialogue forum between Jang Hwikuk, the current superintendent who has led the first to third direct election terms, and the Gwangju Education Citizen Participation Group.
The event began with opening remarks by Lee Haemo, the leader of the 2nd Gwangju Education Citizen Participation Group. The program was divided into two parts: Part 1 featured the superintendent’s reflections on 12 years of innovative education, and Part 2 was a thematic discussion session by the four subcommittees of the Citizen Participation Group.
In particular, the Citizen Participation Group raised their voices on the importance of parent education and the value of coexistence based on cooperation and communication. They also expressed the hope that children and youth in Gwangju will live with hope rather than fear of the future, always carrying joyful and happy energy.
Lee Haemo, leader of the Gwangju Education Citizen Participation Group, stated, “By discussing the strengths and shortcomings of 12 years of Gwangju education, we aim to seek a developmental direction for Gwangju education and prepare recommendations for future Gwangju education policy based on the discussions.”
