SK On to Establish Performance Diagnosis and Evaluation Standards for Used Electric Vehicle Batteries
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] SK On is creating standards to evaluate the performance and residual value of used electric vehicle batteries.
On the 28th, SK On announced that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Automobile Diagnostic Guarantee Association at the SK Seorin Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to establish standards for diagnosing the condition and evaluating the value of electric vehicle batteries.
They agreed to jointly develop performance diagnostic methods and evaluation criteria to calculate the residual value of electric vehicle batteries. This is expected to revitalize the used electric vehicle market and enhance market transparency.
To diagnose battery condition, SK On plans to provide consultation to the association on battery performance measurement and diagnosis based on its proprietary artificial intelligence algorithm (BaaS AI). They also plan to actively utilize data and analytical capabilities accumulated through collaboration with electric vehicle-related companies.
SK On is currently collaborating on battery diagnostics with used car trading companies such as K Car and AutoHub Selcar, rental car company SK Rent-a-Car, and electric vehicle charging platform EV Infra. From the second half of the year, they are developing technology to measure battery life that can be used by used car dealers.
The Korea Automobile Diagnostic Guarantee Association is an organization under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport established to protect consumers through performance condition inspections and price assessment surveys of used cars. The association plans to distribute dedicated diagnostic equipment for electric vehicles and establish performance condition inspection standards for electric vehicles overall, proposing system improvements to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Jung Woo-sung, head of SK On’s e-mobility division, said, "Performance diagnosis and residual value evaluation are the starting points for battery resource circulation," adding, "We will develop various businesses that can take care of both environmental friendliness and consumer benefits."
