Incheon City Expands Aid Projects for Developing Countries... Transfers Advanced Administration in Environment and ICT Policies
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is actively promoting plans to expand the Incheon-style ODA projects to resume international development cooperation projects with developing countries that were halted due to COVID-19.
ODA (Official Development Assistance) projects refer to aid programs aimed primarily at the economic development and social welfare improvement of developing countries.
So far, Incheon City has promoted medical support projects in Southeast Asian countries and a Hope Forest creation project in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to foster goodwill with developing countries and respond to international community issues.
The city plans to take a step further by expanding the scope of Incheon-style ODA projects centered on ▲ policy and technical training in environmental and agricultural fields ▲ ICT (Information and Communication Technology) capacity-building education ▲ nurturing key talents in climate change response, in solidarity with local communities.
This marks a departure from past funding methods, aiming to transfer Incheon’s strengths to developing countries and enable these countries to sustain and develop independently.
To this end, the city will cooperate with international organizations to provide ICT capacity-building education for public officials of sister cities, and conduct training projects with Incheon National University to nurture key talents in climate change response, actively addressing the digital divide and climate environment issues in developing countries.
