Prosecutors Arrest and Indict Former Law School Professor for Ordering Teaching Assistants and Lecturers to Ghostwrite Papers
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] A former university professor who had teaching assistants and lecturers write theses on his behalf has been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 4 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Han Gi-sik) announced on the 28th that they have arrested and indicted former Sungkyunkwan University Law School professor No (63) on charges of obstruction of business.
No, a former prosecutor, is accused of having graduate teaching assistants and lecturers ghostwrite the doctoral dissertation published in 2016 by prosecutor Jeong at Sungkyunkwan University. He is also accused of mobilizing teaching assistants and lecturers to write three papers published in academic journals in 2017-2018 by Jeong's brother, former professor Jeong.
Before the prosecution's investigation intensified, No fled to the United States around January 2019 but voluntarily returned to Korea last April. Upon his return, the prosecution immediately requested and obtained an arrest warrant for him.
