Paldang Observatory in Gyeonggi-do to Reopen on the 2nd of Next Month... A 'Famous Spot' Visited by 70,000 People Annually
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Paldang Observatory in Gyeonggi-do will reopen on the 2nd of next month after more than two years.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Water Resources Headquarters announced on the 28th that the 'Gyeonggi-do Paldang Observatory,' which had been temporarily closed for over two years to prevent the spread of COVID-19, will reopen starting May 2.
Located in Namjong-myeon, Gwangju City, the Paldang Observatory is the only water-related promotional tourism facility in the Paldang area operated by the Provincial Water Resources Headquarters since July 2008.
It consists of the first floor 'Photo Zone' featuring vivid murals of Paldang Lake, and the ninth floor 'Water Environment Exhibition Hall,' which houses various materials that educate visitors on the history of Paldang Lake and the importance of water.
Before its temporary closure at the end of February 2020, the observatory was a unique metropolitan area tourist attraction visited by more than 70,000 family visitors annually.
The observatory operates free of charge year-round except for three days: January 1, Lunar New Year’s Day, and Chuseok Day. Operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both weekdays and holidays.
Visitors can enter without a separate reservation as long as they comply with quarantine rules such as wearing masks and refraining from eating.
During the temporary closure, the Provincial Water Resources Headquarters secured dedicated personnel and prepared a safe viewing environment by inspecting exhibition contents and replacing outdated elevators in preparation for reopening.
