SNT Motive Develops Rifle Capable of Penetrating Bulletproof Vests
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Domestic defense company SNT Motive has developed a next-generation 6.8mm rifle capable of penetrating bulletproof vests. The next-generation 6.8mm rifle uses heavier ammunition than the existing 5.56mm rounds, resulting in increased effective range and greater destructive power.
According to SNT Motive on the 27th, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ammunition manufacturer Poongsan in November 2019 for the development of next-generation 6.8mm rifles and ammunition. Using civilian 6.8mm rounds, SNT Motive secured technology through testing of key components such as barrels and bolts, and with improved ballistic stability, the rifle now possesses penetration power capable of piercing bulletproof vests.
The new STR-24 rifle, with some improved features, was showcased last year at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX).
SNT Motive plans to modularize the firearms currently under development to align with the latest overseas firearm trends. Modular firearms allow for various parts such as barrels, handguards, and stocks to be replaced as needed.
Departing from the traditional K-series design, SNT Motive is applying modularization to the STSM-21 submachine gun currently under development and will participate in domestic and international exhibitions to conduct export consultations.
