Allergy Causes and Treatments Explained by a Professor from Jeonnam National University Hospital
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Professor Yu Ji-eun from the Allergy Department appeared on Chonnam National University Hospital's YouTube channel "Health Echo," where national university hospital professors directly deliver vivid health information, and shared various information about allergies.
Allergy refers to an inappropriate immune response occurring only in certain individuals to substances that do not cause problems for the general population.
Professor Yu Ji-eun, who appeared on Chonnam National University Hospital's YouTube, said, "In allergic diseases such as asthma, rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis, inhaled antigens entering the body through the respiratory system, such as the nose and bronchi, are the cause. Inhaled antigens include house dust mites, dander from pets like dogs and cats, mold, and pollen. In allergic diseases such as urticaria, angioedema, and anaphylaxis, food, drugs, and insect venom such as from bees are often the causes."
Professor Yu also stated, "It is important to identify and avoid the causative allergens, but if symptoms are not well controlled despite avoidance and medication, immunotherapy can be considered. Immunotherapy or immune treatment involves administering gradually increasing doses of the causative allergen from a small amount to reduce the response to the allergen and improve symptoms."
