[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Among domestic COVID-19 confirmed cases, 0.347% are estimated to be reinfection cases.
On the 26th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced the results of an investigation into COVID-19 reinfection estimated cases among domestic confirmed cases up to the 16th, stating that 55,906 people are believed to have been reinfected with COVID-19. This is about double the 26,239 cases reported a month ago on the 19th of last month.
Among them, 55,841 were confirmed to be infected twice, and 65 were infected three times.
Reinfection cases have increased since the Omicron wave. The reinfection (twice infected) estimated case incidence rate was 0.10% until December last year before the Omicron wave, but it increased to 0.36% from January this year.
There were 72 severe reinfection patients including deaths, with a reinfection severity rate of 0.13%. The number of reinfection deaths was 52, and the reinfection fatality rate was confirmed to be 0.09%.
An official from the Central Disease Control Headquarters said, "Compared to overseas status, the domestic reinfection estimated case incidence rate appeared low, but as the number of confirmed cases increased after the Omicron wave, reinfection estimated cases are also increasing," urging people to comply with quarantine rules after confirmation.
