Jin Seong-jun, the Democratic Party's senior deputy floor leader, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 25th and said, "We have reached an agreement between the floor leaders and plan to proceed with the bill review schedule at the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee as planned today."
He also stated, "We will closely consult with the Speaker of the National Assembly regarding the current situation and the parliamentary procedures to implement the agreement arranged through the Speaker's mediation."
Regarding the People Power Party's reversal of its position on the mediation proposal, he said, "We believe that the sudden shift in the People Power Party's stance was primarily influenced by the position of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol operating behind the scenes."
He explained, "Following harsh remarks from Justice Minister nominee Han Dong-hoon and subsequent reconsideration comments from People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok, as well as statements from transition committee chairman Ahn Cheol-soo and even President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, floor leader Kwon Seong-dong, who had pledged to uphold the National Assembly agreement until last night, raised the need for re-discussion."
During the subsequent Q&A session, Senior Deputy Floor Leader Jin said, "If the Legislation and Judiciary Committee proceeds with the review, the mediation proposal will be the focal point of discussion," adding, "Although many prosecutorial reform-related bills have been submitted to the committee, it is difficult to reach an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties." He emphasized that since the parties have already reached an agreement, discussions will proceed based on that premise.
