Oh Ha-geun, Suncheon Mayor Preliminary Candidate, Establishes Municipal Advisory Committee Centered on Former Mayors and City Council Chairs
A Major Administrative Transformation in Suncheon with Participation from All Citizens
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Oh Ha-geun, a preliminary candidate for Suncheon mayor, on the 25th, promised to greatly expand the implementation of the citizen participation budget system as the first item of the Suncheon administrative transformation pledge that involves all citizens.
The citizen participation budget system allows residents themselves to make decisions regarding the supply of local public goods. It is both the realization of taxpayer sovereignty and a civic control mechanism to enhance the soundness and transparency of local financial management.
Preliminary candidate Oh Ha-geun plans to further expand citizen participation in decision-making on the feasibility and priority of projects, ensuring broad opportunities for citizens to participate in the budget formulation process.
Candidate Oh also promised to establish an administrative advisory committee centered on former Suncheon mayors and city council chairs, who can serve as a bridge between Suncheon’s past and future.
This aims not only to prevent potential abuses of power by the mayor, which could lead to arrogance and dogmatism, but also to accelerate the era of Suncheon administrative transformation by learning from the successes and failures of past administrations through advice from several former Suncheon mayors and city council chairs.
Additionally, through the establishment of a Conflict Mediation and Communication Committee, he plans to resolve all possible conflicts arising throughout city administration, including those between citizens and public officials, among public officials themselves, and between union members and non-members.
Furthermore, he envisions building a predictable administrative system and a one-stop civil service system to enable both citizens and public officials to handle civil affairs quickly and comfortably.
