Two Teenagers Caught Stealing 30 Million Won Worth of Gold and Valuables from Jewelry Store to Fund Entertainment Expenses
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Two teenagers were arrested by the police for stealing gold and valuables worth 30 million won from a jewelry store located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to fund their entertainment expenses.
According to Jongno Police Station on the 25th, Yang Mo and Kim Mo, who are suspected of special theft, were apprehended by the police. The two, who were neighborhood friends, were arrested on the 22nd and the 14th, respectively.
According to the police, Yang disguised himself as a customer and stole items from the shelves of a precious metals store in Jongno-gu around 11:30 a.m. on the 14th. The stolen items, including pure gold necklaces worth about 10 million won, totaled approximately 31.3 million won in value. Kim opened the building’s exit door to help Yang escape easily. The exit door was a button-operated automatic door, and Kim is known to have kept it open to shorten the escape time.
Subsequently, the police secured the suspects’ appearances through closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other means. The police tracked and arrested Kim at the scene. Yang was also caught after his whereabouts were identified. It is reported that they committed the crime to raise money for entertainment expenses.

A police official stated, "We recovered one bracelet weighing 30 don out of a total of 95 don of pure gold," adding, "The remaining 65 don were confirmed to have been sold on the day of the crime, and we are conducting a follow-up investigation."
