On the 24th, three Democratic Party preliminary candidates for Naju mayor held a press conference in the small conference room of the Naju City Council, criticizing the unfair nomination management by the Democratic Party's Naju regional committee and urging the emergency committee to make a decision for the innovation of the Democratic Party and the reform of the regional committee.
The Democratic Party preliminary candidates for Naju mayor, Kang In-gyu, Kim Deok-su, and Kim Byung-joo, who participated in the press conference, pointed out, "Although the right to choose the Democratic Party's local election candidates belongs only to party members and citizens, the regional committee chairman's arbitrary actions are appearing," and added, "The mayoral candidates who were unfairly eliminated are expressing anger and pain, and local residents are raising reasonable doubts and voices of anger."
They also said, "We need to reconsider whether the intention to dominate power through so-called 'planting one's own people' nominations, under the misconception that nomination equals election, was involved," and urged, "The central party leadership should improve the undemocratic and hegemonic behavior of the Naju regional committee that appeared in this nomination process."
Quoting the remarks of Park Ji-hyun, the Democratic Party emergency committee chairperson, on the 20th, they argued, "Local election nominations should be decided by the collective intelligence of party members and citizens, not by the judgment of a small leadership group, and it should be made into a 'national nomination' for winning local elections, not a 'factional nomination' reflecting the interests of specific forces."
Finally, the three Democratic Party preliminary candidates for Naju mayor stated, "We plan to convey detailed concerns about the local election nomination process to the party leadership," and demanded, "The central party must come up with responsible measures for the innovation of the Democratic Party and the reform of the regional committee."
It was confirmed that Democratic Party preliminary candidates for Naju mayor Kang In-gyu, Kim Deok-su, and Kim Byung-joo were notified of their cut-off decision by the Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Party's nomination committee on the 19th and applied for a reconsideration to the central party.
The Democratic Party central party's reconsideration committee discussed whether to accept the reconsideration for these candidates on the 23rd, and it is known that only the final decision of the Democratic Party emergency committee remains on the 25th.
