Gangbuk-gu Expands Distribution of Wireless Recognition (RFID) Food Waste Weighing Devices
Additional 100 Pay-As-You-Throw Bins Supported After June... Expecting Food Waste Reduction Through Differential Fees Based on Disposal Amount
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeomsu) is expanding the support target for the wireless identification (RFID) food waste volume-based charging system to general housing with 15 or more households.
The RFID food waste volume-based charging system charges fees based on the amount of food waste disposed of using an individual card when throwing away food waste. Since fees are charged differentially according to the amount disposed, it not only reduces food waste but also allows hygienic management of food waste bins.
Previously, the volume-based charging system was limited to multi-family housing, but from this year, the support target will be expanded to small multi-family housing such as single-family, multi-household, and multi-unit houses with 15 or more households. Since introducing the volume-based charging system in 2018, 320 units have been distributed and operated, and this year, a total of 100 additional units will be supported.
For general housing, support is decided comprehensively considering whether more than two-thirds of households agree, the selection of a manager, and the suitability of the installation location. Applications submitted by April will be installed from June onwards, and the purchase and installation costs will be borne by the district office. For more details regarding RFID volume-based charging system installation, please contact the Cleaning Administration Division of Gangbuk-gu Office.
