View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Han Dong-hoon, the nominee for Minister of Justice, expressed concerns on the 23rd regarding Park Byeong-seok, the Speaker of the National Assembly's mediation proposal on 'Geomsu Wanbak' (complete removal of prosecutorial investigative authority).
Han's camp issued a statement that day, pointing out, "Even under the current system of (prosecutor-police investigative authority adjustment) implemented since the 2020 revision, many side effects and loopholes have been revealed in protecting ordinary citizens and responding to corruption."
Han emphasized, "If additional legislation is hastily enacted without thorough analysis and social consensus, the problems will severely worsen."
On the previous day, Speaker Park presented a mediation proposal on Geomsu Wanbak to the ruling and opposition parties, which included separating the prosecution's direct investigative authority and indictment authority, and forming a special judicial reform committee to discuss the establishment of a Serious Crime Investigation Agency.
