Police Investigate Allegations of Special Treatment in Jeong Ho-young's Child's Medical School Transfer and Military Service Corruption (Comprehensive)

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The police have begun an investigation into allegations of preferential treatment involving the children of Jeong Ho-young, the nominee for Minister of Health and Welfare.
The National Police Agency announced on the 21st that the complaint against nominee Jeong has been transferred to the Daegu Police Agency.
Earlier, five organizations including the Candlelight Action Alliance for Reform and Transition, the Livelihood Economy Research Institute, the Reform National Movement Headquarters, the Citizens' Solidarity Together, and the Citizens' Group for Investigating All Illegal Corruption and Preferential Treatment of the Yoon Seok-yeol Family filed a complaint on the 18th with the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters against nominee Jeong and Professor Park Tae-in, then vice dean of Kyungpook National University Medical School, on charges including obstruction of official duties by abuse of power.
They also filed a complaint against nominee Jeong's son, who is suspected of military service corruption, on charges of violating the Military Service Act.
Nominee Jeong was also reported for suspected violation of the Farmland Act for owning rice paddies and fields in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, but not actually farming them. The Daegu Police Agency has assigned the complaint to the Metropolitan Investigation Unit and is reviewing the contents of the complaint.
Nominee Jeong is under suspicion of preferential treatment during the process of his daughter and son transferring as undergraduates to Kyungpook National University Medical School while he was working at Kyungpook National University Hospital. Regarding this suspicion, Kyungpook National University has requested an audit from the Ministry of Education. The prosecution has also received complaints related to nominee Jeong's children's medical school transfer and military service issues.

The civic group Judicial Justice Citizens' Action submitted a complaint to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on the same day, requesting an investigation into nominee Jeong's children's preferential medical school transfer and military service corruption allegations, applying charges such as abuse of authority and obstruction of official duties.
